OLED

Organic Light-Emitting Diode — the display technology in all modern iPhones

OLED is the display technology used in all iPhones from the X (2017) onwards. Each individual pixel produces its own light — unlike LCD which requires a separate backlight. This means OLED pixels switch completely off when showing black, producing true blacks and infinite contrast. OLED screens are significantly more expensive to replace than LCD.

Why It Matters For Your Repair

When your technician quotes significantly more for an iPhone 13 screen replacement than an iPhone 8, OLED is the reason. The panel itself is more expensive to manufacture and source. Quality also varies — aftermarket OLED panels can show colour shift, reduced brightness, and faster burn-in compared to genuine Apple panels. Always confirm the panel grade before agreeing to a screen replacement.
