LCD
Liquid Crystal Display — used in older iPhones, more affordable to replace
LCD is the screen technology used in iPhones up to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 11. It uses a backlight and liquid crystals to produce images — the backlight runs constantly, even on black areas, which is why true blacks are impossible on LCD. LCD screens are significantly cheaper to replace than OLED panels and come as a bonded assembly: glass, digitiser, and panel together.
Why It Matters For Your Repair
LCD replacements are more affordable and widely available. However, quality varies significantly — a cheap LCD replacement will show washed-out colours, poor viewing angles, and reduced brightness compared to the original. For iPhone 8, SE (2020), and iPhone 11, always confirm an IPS LCD panel is used, not a TFT panel, which is a lower-quality alternative sometimes used in budget repairs.
