Fingerprint Sensor IC
Controls the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner
The Fingerprint Sensor IC controls Samsung’s in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner used on Galaxy S and Z series. Unlike optical fingerprint sensors, Samsung’s Qualcomm ultrasonic scanner works through the AMOLED panel itself. Failure causes fingerprints not being recognised or the sensor not appearing. The fault may be screen-level (if the panel was replaced with an incompatible one) or board-level (if the IC itself has failed).
Why It Matters For Your Repair
If fingerprint recognition stops working after a screen replacement, the replacement panel may not support the ultrasonic scanner — not all third-party AMOLED replacements are compatible. Always confirm fingerprint compatibility with your technician before a screen replacement on Galaxy S or Z Fold devices.
