AMOLED
Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode
AMOLED is Samsung’s display technology where each individual pixel produces its own light. Unlike LCD screens which require a separate backlight, AMOLED pixels switch completely off when showing black — producing true blacks and infinite contrast. Used across the Galaxy A and mid-range S series.
Why It Matters For Your Repair
AMOLED panels are significantly more expensive to replace than LCD. When your technician quotes more for a Galaxy A screen versus an older model, AMOLED is the reason. The panel tier — Super AMOLED, Dynamic AMOLED, Dynamic AMOLED 2X — directly affects replacement cost. Always confirm which variant your model uses before agreeing to a repair quote.
How It Works
No backlight needed. Pixels switch fully off for true black.
Thin-film transistors drive each pixel faster for smoother motion.
Prone to screen burn-in from prolonged static content display.
