Dead Pixel

A permanently failed pixel on your iPhone screen

A dead pixel is an individual pixel on an iPhone screen that has permanently stopped working. It shows a fixed colour — usually black, white, or a single bright colour — regardless of what the rest of the screen displays. A single isolated dead pixel is usually cosmetic and not worth repairing. A spreading cluster or expanding dark patch after a drop indicates internal panel damage requiring replacement.

Why It Matters For Your Repair

On OLED iPhones, a dark patch spreading after a drop almost always means the OLED panel is fracturing internally — this will grow over time. Act quickly, as a spreading crack in the panel can extend behind the display glass and become more expensive to address. On LCD iPhones, a spreading black patch often means the backlight layer has been damaged by impact.
