Samsung Repair Term
IP Rating
What your Galaxy’s water resistance rating actually means
IP (Ingress Protection) Rating classifies a Samsung Galaxy’s resistance to dust and water. IP68 — used on Galaxy S and Z series — means the device can withstand immersion in fresh water up to 1.5m for 30 minutes under controlled lab conditions. This does not mean it is waterproof in pools, the sea, showers, or humid Singapore conditions. The seals degrade with age, drops, and repairs.
Why It Matters For Your Repair
After any Samsung repair that opens the device — screen, battery, charging port — the original IP68 seal is no longer intact. Third-party repair shops cannot restore Samsung’s factory IP rating. If water resistance is important to you, be aware that any repair will reduce the real-world water protection of your Galaxy, even if new adhesive is applied.
